CHECK-INS AND CHECK-OUTS AS A BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Check In/ Check Out (CICO) is component of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). It’s an important feature that allows educators to make frequent quick checks with students and mitigate maladaptive behaviors. This module will explore the steps of CICO, how to monitor students’ progress and make adaptations to the CICO procedure to fit individual student needs.

- Educators will explain the concept of CICO and describe the 5 steps of CICO.
- Educators will be able to describe adaptations for CICO that they can implement in their classroom.

- Educators will develop a CICO procedure for students that need this type of system to be successful in the school setting, including a progress monitoring component.
Mindset:
- Quick checks can mitigate maladaptive behavior.
- Offering varying levels of behavioral support to students, based on individual needs can promote student success socially and academically.
- Not all students fit the same learning or personality profiles. Student needs will vary and procedures for behavior management should fit student needs.
