Part 3: Affect plays a critical role in learning and learners vary greatly in how they are engaged and motivated. This module explores multiple means of engagement in the classroom setting and how to optimize student autonomy while maintaining high expectations for all learners.

KNOWLEDGE-SKILLS-MINDSET
Knowledge:
- Teachers understand the concept of multiple means of engagement and the many ways in which students are engaged in learning.
- Teachers can develop lesson plans with built-in choices for student engagement at each point of the lesson.
- Teachers can plan for multiple means of engagement that encompasses all possible student needs.
- UDL is a critical pedagogy to create universal access to students with identified with disabilities and ALL learners.
- Student learning preferences and profiles are jagged; the idea of an “average learner” does not exist. Therefore, lesson plans that do not offer choice in multiple modalities are not reaching all learners.
- Learners are extremely varied in how they engage in material and are motivated to learn.
