- Specific, targeted instruction around social emotional topics can be necessary for some students to understand social cues and appropriate behavior.
- Social emotional learning will not always happen through absorption of these norms. There are specific ways to teach student to be more socially-emotionally aware.
- Social-emotional learning includes social skills, empathy, and identification of one’s own emotions.
Skills:
- How to identify targeted social-emotional needs by student and grade level.
- Develop a social-emotional curriculum that meets students’ needs.
- Facilitate social-emotional learning in all settings (lunchroom, playground, academic time)
