Prior to becoming a special educator, many new teachers have never attended an IEP meeting, let alone chaired one. Familiarize yourself with the general practices of an IEP meeting, before jumping in head first! Learn the basics to IEP meetings, what to expect and general practices for making it through your first meeting.

Knowledge:
- There are common practices that are part of every IEP meeting.
- There are multiple types of IEP meetings with a variety of purposes.
- An IEP team includes service providers and administrators and all members should be present at each meeting.
- There are certain items that should be written into all IEP meeting minutes.
- Facilitating and attending an IEP meeting.
- Scheduling IEP meetings
- The case manager is most often the chair of the IEP meeting
